Dates
General formatting
- Spell out the full name of the day of the week and the month, followed by the day.
- Example: Classes begin on Thursday, September 18.
- Do not use a comma between the month and year.
- Example: The new program will launch in September 2012.
Academic and multi-year references
- Use an en dash (–) to separate academic years.
- Example: 2010–2011, 2011–2012.
- Use 'to' instead of an en dash for multi-year periods.
- Example: 2008 to 2012.
- Include the year if the date is more than 12 months from publication or in the next calendar year.
- Fiscal years may be abbreviated with FY.
- Example: FY 2013–2014.
Events and scheduling
- Include the day of the week when referring to upcoming events.
- Example: Students returned to school on Tuesday, September 9.
- For event weeks, use the week of [month, day to day].
- Example: Orientation Week will take place September 2 to 6.
